CASA DEL ARTESANO SUDCALIFORNIANO DE LA PAZ,
BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR

LYTIC CRAFTS OF Sudcalifornia / CRAFTSMAN CASIMIR GARDEA OROZCO
The culture of the peoples who inhabited the peninsula has always caused great interest to anthropologists and archaeologists , has also attracted the interest of society that seeks to know and understand how they lived and conceived their geographical area .
Thanks to the writings of the Jesuit missionaries and mainly Dominicans , has reached us about their dress , food and some of their customs , but we must always point the bias characteristic of a completely different culture . It was in the last two centuries (1800 -2000) mainly when when research and reflections on indigenous cultures that inhabited the peninsula resulted in greater interest of the people to know and understand in a more objective way , these cultures achieved over the centuries to adapt to a hostile environment.
This fascination aroused by the discovery of some arrowheads in 1977 on trips around the outskirts of the city of La Paz, especially during their walks on the beach The Conchalito , over 35 years ago motif Casimiro Gardea Orozco , born in Cd De Chihuahua , Chih . And resident in this city since 1975 , being a survivor of Cyclone Liza in 1976 , because of this the internship being in The City of Children of Peace and an apprentice Graphic Designer in print, he acquired the habit of leaving early Sunday walk along the beach. . . during these trips was that he found along with a large clam chocolate over a kilo and a half of weight their first two points of complete arrow approximately 4 inches long in perfect size , being that he did not know such tools only in the museum and in the books, these tips are taught to the people in charge of boarding one of his trips to Italy I carry these being in the hands of a person who worked in one of the museums that country, of which not heard from them in return this person to his return I gift a carved ivory knife he brought from Africa , from the time he was born in the habit of every time he went for a walk … search and collect stone pieces , finding almost entirely divided or broken parts and whole pieces sporadically , his perseverance led him to collect more than 40 complete pieces in perfect condition which in 2012 donated to the Museum of Anthropology and History of Baja California Sur to exposure along with a molar prehistoric camel found opposite the old hotel Gran Baja.
His creative work does not conclude with the presentation of this collection , but realizing that most of the spearheads and arrow broken items or perhaps for the use they were given when thrown against prey or were the be doing when he broke his hammered the original author of the same and based on articles published in books by researchers decided to enter and perform with the technique of hammered some arrowheads that after many attempts to achieve his first replicas ( by mentioning well but if they are original , so they regulate any part is equal to the other) for several years was keeping these parts, not being satisfied with this began manufacturing also axes, after he was born the concern them in a more complete way and began to make bows with arrows making tie-ups with fishing line , but this also did not satisfied and began to research the type of mooring the California Indians used , reading a book they did lasillos machando the root of cactus , cholla , ocotillo and wild maguey , trying to simulate this technique try find a way to do something similar to the findings in the excavations , including use of palm leaf but did not seem right , until in a chat online with an Argentine collector this will said that in some cultures used fiber banana leaf to bandage wounds and in some cases the wires or strands of leaves for him to try cranial sutures thus achieving lasillos did so very similar to those used by former Californians , to establish it later when you are allowed to enter the laboratory of anthropology museum to observe lasillos that there kept a Pericue kilt made with knuckles reed over 700 years old in which I request them develop this technique to place on a mannequin in a Pericue woman with a pectoral shell pearl for your companion.
I already made this step began it make complete arches with their arrows doing their moorings with this banana fiber making mango axes making tie-ups with this fiber , thus achieving parts envy any collector of antique weapons and so got to make his first small exposure during May to August 2013 in Downtown Arts and Popular Traditions of southern Baja California Cultures exposing axes, knives , spears, hooks wood, bone , shell and fish one of backbone . A fragment of Pericue faldillin , strings and accessories replicating those used by ancient Californians .
Casimiro Orozco Gardea present this series of objects for the purpose of people to get a picture of how they were used and the importance they had for the cultures of indigenous Californians principally engaged in the hunting and gathering fruits and seeds. Furthermore, this pieces are designed by the author as a different craft maybe, but not least to be made with great skill and ability .
We recognize the continuing work of this craftsman who offers an interesting insight into the culture of ancient Californians , we hope you enjoy this shows the talent and creativity of this Sudcaliforniano adoption .
